Fraylick Farm is offering a limited number of apprenticeships in 2018. We raise pastured pigs and specialty cut flowers. The apprenticeships will focus on the specialty cut flower aspects of our operation. You may be a good candidate if you love working outside, aren't afraid of a lot of sweat and dirt, and love flowers. We are offering two different types of apprenticeships this year.
- Flower Farming through the Seasons: This is a 10 week program that allows you to see the cut flower operation at different points through out the year. It will consist of 4 weeks in the spring- 3 in April and 1 in May, 3 weeks in late June and July, and 3 weeks in late October and early November, and a 1 day farm tour in January. The commitment is 15-20 hours a week. Apprentices who choose this program will also undergo some intense training time once a week covering the fundamentals of flower farming. Some of the training will be classroom oriented and some will be hands on in the field. The rest of the time will consist of a lot of planting, bed preparation, weeding, and harvesting.
-Seasonal Interns: Two positions are open for seasonal interns for 2018. One for Summer- June through mid- Sept and one for Fall - Late August through mid November. The commitment for this program is 10 hours a week. If choosing this program, you will also receive the same training as the Flower Farming through the Seasons apprentices during your season and are also invited to attend the training times throughout the rest of the year.
*Either program can be customized if you need school credit. Apprentice hours will be most early in the week Monday through Wednesdays. Spring and Fall hours will usually be an all day event. Summer will be early mornings and half days until noon due to the heat.
